The show features my work and that of my talented and adventurous friends who spend time each autumn painting on this charming island off the coast of Maine, known as "The Artist's Island". Many great American artists have come there before us, Andrew and Jamie Wyeth and Rockwell Kent, to name a few, so we feel incredibly lucky to carry on the tradition of stepping back in time to see the magic of Monhegan through the eyes of those who made it legendary.

American Classic, pastel, 11x14

I loved doing this demo for my Friday afternoon class,

Still Life in Pastels and Oils.  I have fun each week

selecting subject matter, trying to offer a variety of textures,

colors, and compositions to continually challenge my

students and offer something new to learn. This was done

on Ampersand Pastel Board, sketched in with vine

charcoal,and then under painted with a mixture of  hard

Nupastels and soft pastels. I then washed it with alcohol

and a brush to cover the board and set the darkest values. 

Then the real fun began with soft pastels!
